Dr. Thomas Choponis is a dedicated and experienced optometrist committed to delivering thorough, patient-centered vision care. He graduated with honors from Ferris State University with a Doctor of Optometry degree and completed advanced clinical externships at respected institutions such as Cherry Health in Grand Rapids, the Wyoming VA Health Care Center, and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. These diverse experiences helped shape his comprehensive approach to both routine and complex eye conditions.

Before becoming an optometrist, Dr. Choponis spent several years working as an optician. This hands-on experience gave him a unique understanding of the optical side of vision care, enhancing his ability to connect with patients and guide them toward the best visual solutions.
Since 2017, Dr. Choponis has been proudly serving the Upper Peninsula community, offering expertise in refractive care, specialty contact lens fittings, and the diagnosis and management of conditions such as dry eye disease, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.
He has pursued continued education in advanced dry eye treatments, including intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, amniotic membranes, and meibomian gland expression. Dr. Choponis is passionate about providing the most effective and comfortable solutions for patients with chronic ocular surface issues. He also strives to stay up to date with the latest advancements in eye care technology, ensuring his patients receive the highest standard of care.
Originally from Luther, Michigan, Dr. Choponis enjoys an active lifestyle and values quality time with his family. He and his wife, Stephanie, along with their daughters Madison and Natalie, have made their home in Sault Sainte Marie. Outside of the clinic, he enjoys hiking, skiing, and ATV riding. He is also an active member of the Lions Club, contributing his time and expertise to community service throughout the region.
